Teeth Grinding – Bruxism

Bruxism is the unconscious grinding or gritting of one’s teeth. Although it generally occurs at night, it can also happen during the day.

Children and adults can suffer from bruxism. In fact, most cases fall within the 20 to 50 age group. While teeth grinding can be occasional, it can cause irreversible damage to your teeth if the condition persists. In addition, the frequency and intensity can vary over time, and the habit can even disappear completely.

Common symptoms

  • Wear and abrasion of teeth
  • Headaches
  • Pain in the mouth area
  • Pain in the jaw and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) upon waking

Not much is known yet about this condition, but anxiety seems to be a trigger that can aggravate it.
