Follow up Care at Home

After a Crown or Bridge Delivery

It is important to follow the instructions below to speed healing. Note that some discomfort and swelling are normal after the treatment.

The installation of crowns and bridges can take one or two appointments to complete. With the CEREC technology, it is now possible for most of our patients to have an esthetic permanent dental restoration in one appointment!

If two appointments are required, temporary crowns or bridges are placed to protect your teeth while the custom restoration is being made.

Day of the procedure

  • Take the medication recommended by our team, as needed.

Don'ts

  • Don't consume hot beverages while you are anesthetized (frozen).
  • Don't eat hard or sticky foods (candy, chewing gum).
  • Try to eat on the opposite side for 24 to48 hours

The day after until full healing

  • Brush your teeth normally, but floss carefully to avoid dislodging the temporary crown.
  • If a temporary crown is dislodged, you must come in so we can re-cement it. This is important as it will prevent other teeth from moving and compromising the fit of your final restoration.

It is normal for your tooth to require some time to get accustomed to it’s new crown. During this period, some sensitivity to temperature variation and hard foods is normal.

If you experience pain, have trouble closing your teeth together normally, or if you have questions, call us at (450) 510-2323.
